Bio

Lucas Gianini has performed with the North Carolina, Greensboro, Charlotte, Charleston, Western Piedmont, and Lima Symphony Orchestras, Greensboro Opera, Bel Canto Opera Company, Carolina’s Wind Orchestra and with ensembles across Ohio and the Carolinas. An avid performer of contemporary music, he has taken part in the premiere and commissioning of several pieces for solo clarinet and chamber ensemble.

Recent solo performances and presentations include appearances at the 2023 International Low-Clarinet Festival, editions of the International Clarinet Association Conference in 2019 and 2021-2023, the 2021 College Music Society National Conference in New York, and the ICA New Music Weekend in 2021 and 2023. Lucas was a winner of UNC Greensboro’s 2022 Student Artist Competition and performed Roger Zare’s Phoenix Song with the University Symphony Orchestra in November, 2022. As a collaborative musician, Lucas is a clarinetist for the Elon Contemporary Chamber Ensemble and the Dead Reed Society reed quintet. He has also performed with various new-music focused chamber ensembles such as earspace, F-PLUS, and was a founding member of the Noise to Signal Ensemble. In addition, Lucas has been invited to attend the 2023 Bang on a Can Summer Festival, has performed at the 2020 Clarinet Maestro Festival, and was invited to be the Bass Clarinet Fellow at the (subsequently-canceled due to COVID-19) 2020 Brevard Music Center.

Lucas currently teaches clarinet, saxophone, and flute lessons in the Charlotte, NC area. He has also taught online lessons to students as far as Texas. He has served as band director for multiple middle school programs in Charlotte, NC and regularly works with various local schools as a woodwind instructor. For several years Lucas has worked at UNC-Greensboro’s Summer Music Camp as both a counselor and private clarinet lessons instructor.

Lucas holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from UNC Greensboro, where he also earned his Bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Performance. Lucas earned his Master of Music degree from Bowling Green State University. His primary teachers have included Anthony Taylor, Kelly Burke, Kevin Schempf, and Andy Hudson.
